About the weave
Mysore silk is a plain-weave pure silk, historically associated with the mills the Mysore royal house established in the early twentieth century. Where Kanchipuram announces itself through weight and Banarasi through pattern density, Mysore silk works the opposite way: an uninterrupted, evenly lustrous body with the ornament held back for a gold zari pallu.
The practical consequence is weight. A Mysore silk saree lands near 400g — roughly half a bridal Kanjivaram. It drapes without engineering, it does not fight you across a long working day, and it folds small enough to travel. That combination is why it has become the default silk for pooja, for office, and for the saree you give someone when you want to give real silk without staging a spectacle.
We keep it in ivory, pastel pink, sky blue and maroon — the colours that move fastest in Gobi. At seven to ten days on the loom, this is also the fastest weave to reorder if the colour you want is not on the shelf.

How to recognise a real one
Ask to see any of these on any piece in either store. It is a normal request, not an awkward one.

Caring for your Mysore Silk saree
- Dry-clean; if you must wash at home, cold water and a mild silk detergent, never wrung.
- Dry in shade — direct sun flattens the sheen that is the whole point of this weave.
- Iron on the reverse, lowest silk setting, while very slightly damp.
- Because it is light, it creases easily: hang it out for a day before wearing rather than ironing at the last minute.

How much does a Mysore silk saree cost?
Our Mysore silk sarees start at ₹5,500 for pure silk with a gold zari pallu. It is the most accessible pure-silk weave we carry, which is why it is the one most often bought as a gift.
Is Mysore silk good for daily wear?
It is the pure silk most suited to it. At around 400g it is roughly half the weight of a bridal Kanjivaram, it drapes without effort and it holds up to a full day of wear. Most of our customers keep Mysore silk for office, pooja and festival days and reserve the heavier weaves for weddings.
Which is lighter — Mysore silk or Kanchipuram?
Mysore silk, by a wide margin: about 400g against 700–800g for a bridal Kanchipuram. The difference is real zari content and the three-part korvai construction of a Kanjivaram, both of which add metal and cloth.
Can I order a Mysore silk saree in a specific colour?
Usually, yes. Mysore silk takes seven to ten days on the loom, the shortest lead time of any silk we stock, so a colour we do not have on the shelf can often be arranged. Ask at either store.
